Kindred

How Kindred works

Two kinds of conversation: private chats that open after a mutual like, and group chats around shared interests. Here are the details people ask about most.

Matching & private chats

How do I start meeting people?

Create a profile with your name, age, city and a short note about yourself, then open Discover. You'll see one person at a time — like the ones you'd like to talk to, or pass them on.

When does a chat open?

Only when a like goes both ways. If you like someone and they like you back, Kindred puts you both under Matches and opens a one-on-one chat. Your matches stay there, so you can tap one and talk whenever you like.

What if the feeling isn't mutual?

Then nothing else happens. A one-way like doesn't open a chat, and there's no list of people who liked you — the only thing that unlocks a conversation is a like going both ways.

Who can read my private chats?

Just you and the person you're talking to. One-on-one chats are visible only to the two of them, and they can't be opened until both people have liked each other.

Community discussions

What are the community discussions?

Group chats organised around something people already enjoy talking about — coffee and conversation, travel, music and films, fitness, food. Everyone in a group can read it and post, and new messages show up as they're sent.

How do I join one?

Open Groups and pick a topic. Opening a group adds you to it, so you can read what's already been said and jump in with your own hello.

Can anyone read a group chat?

No. A group's messages are visible only to its members. Members can see the list of groups so they can find something they like, but the conversation itself stays inside that group.

What's the 'Join the community discussion' button on the homepage?

That one opens a wider community conversation in a new tab. It's a good place to start if you'd rather talk in a group before matching with anyone one-on-one.

Joining & what shows on your profile

Who can join?

Anyone 18 or older. You confirm your age when you create an account, and a profile age has to be 18 or over to be saved.

What does it cost?

Kindred is free to join.

How do I sign up?

With an email address and password, or with Google. Once you're in, the app opens on Discover so you can start looking straight away.

What do other members see on my profile?

The name you choose, your age, your city, who you'd like to meet and your short bio. Profiles show your initials as a stand-in for a photo, and your email address is never shown.

Still curious?

The homepage explains what Kindred is in a paragraph or two, and the community discussion is open to anyone who wants to say hello first.
